I am Karan from Olympia, WA. Almost every other name used here is a pseodonym pseudonim pseudonymn alias. The rest of it is true - mostly - and all of it is my own. Don't even think about taking any of it, unless of course, you want to pay me.

The counter says that 2843256 have been flummelized, but I personally think it's all a big lie.

    Let there be light

We’ve had a mystery here at the Flummel house.  For almost a year when the rooms are dark and empty - the lights go on.  When I discover a room all alit with no occupant, my first reaction is to yell out, “Who can’t manage to turn off the lights?” It’s happened so often that it’s became my mantra and my yellout has became ineffectual.  Everyone ignored me.  Everyone ignores me, but perhaps that’s another issue altogether.

Anyway, I’m always discovering empty rooms with lights ablaze.  It pisses me off.  It always pissed off my dad.  I’ve become my dad....that’s how serious this problem is...I’ve become my dad.  No amount of inquisition-like interrogations have flushed out the perps...or even a hint at who is doing this.  I began to think that all three of them (the husband, the boy, the girl), all three were in cahoots and all three covered calmly for each other.  And, I continued to switch off lights.

Our switches are those standard wall flipping models found in most American homes for the last sixty years or so.  Most of ours are dark brown although we do have a few of the ever popular ivory colored versions.  This petty detail is significant.

Yesterday I discovered the cause of the creeping increase in our power bill....the one who flips our switches is Riso, the Lightswitch Dog.  I caught him red pawed jumping up and shoving the switch to on.  Dark.  Jump.  Light.  He turns on the light and leaves, much the same way the kids do it.

We’ve decided that he has this god thing going on....let there be light and there is.  He doesn’t seem to do it for any purpose other than to just do it.  He does glance into the room but doesn’t go in.  He just seems to do it for the sake of doing.

Now our challenge...my challenge....is to figure out how to get him to stop it.  Smart dogs don’t necessarily give up something they like to do...not very willingly.

    Wish me luck.
